The Imaging and Optics Facility (IOF) is developing continuously. On this page we provide an overview of the ongoing activities in our events calendar (current maintenance, workshops, equipment demonstrations, courses,.. ), and link to the archive of our weekly update newsletter. to previous teaching activities (courses & seminars) and equipment demonstration & workshops.
Events
- i24/Moonstone: Maintenance weeks will be from September 8 until October 3rd. C&M will inform us 2 weeks before the maintenance weeks start when and how (electricity, ventilation) our Moonstone facility will be affected. You will get detailed information as soon as we have it in the weekly update and see it as incidents in PPMS.

PreSemester MICROSCOPY Course 2025/2026
The (pre-semester) microscopy course is organized by the Imaging & Optics Facility (IOF) and aims to generate the understanding of how to design your experiments using matching imaging techniques. As a red line we raise awareness of the importance of proper data acquisition and the timely image analysis assessments during essay establishment: timely assay-evaluation is critical to determine if the fundamental ‘properties of process of interest’ can be resolved and quantified by the used imaging approach. To this aim, participants will be introduced to contemporary microscopy techniques, with a focus on the methods that are available at ISTA campus. Lectures will cover microscopy-related principles of optics, principles of fluorescence, anatomy of the microscope, sample preparation, methods of optical sectioning, image acquisition methods, super-resolution technologies, basics of electron microscopy and the basics of data analysis.
We use the online Moodle Platform for the course handling, that can be reached via the following direct link:

PARTICIPATION
The online version is open to all. Use following credential to access the Zoom meeting:

Dear all,
Welcome to ISTA and thank you for your interest to start using laser equipment. This general laser safety training is meant for NEW scientists and staff that are planning to use laser based equipment and/or need access to a laser lab. New users of microscopes of the IOF machine park have to sign up for the IOF Newcomer training, where the laser safety to use microscopes is already included. This General laser safety training is planned for every first Monday of the month, at 15:00h and normally takes about 30 minutes
Request for “General Laser Safety Training”
This training is required by austrian law and will be held in person. When you sign up via email you will receive a room number for the next training.
Best regards,
The Laser Safety Office:
