BIF update wk 40, 2019

Dear Colleagues,

Hereby the bio-imaging facility weekly update for week 40:

  • Invoices for Q3, 2019: invoices for all accounts (grants & cost center) are due today September 30 2019 → Since no changes can be made after the invoices are sent out, we ask you to please check if all your bookings are placed on the correct cost center: To make this the least painful for you, please find a short ‘HOW TO’: https://iof.pages.ist.ac.at/guidelines-safety/booking-system/cost-centers/
  • All  microscope rooms are BSL1 (Bio Safety Level 1): eating, drinking is in these rooms is strictly forbidden (as is  handling contact lenses, and applying cosmetics). Any user found not complying with these basic rules will receive two penalty points.   please find all information about our safety guidelines  here. In addition, please see page 5 of this document for more detailed BSL1 practices.

TEACHING & LEARNING:

  • Microscopy course: we are in the last 2 days of the microscopy course – this  might still lead to some delay in responding to requests and incidents: we hope for your understanding. Slides of our course can be found here (please use internally only)
  • Online bioimage analysis course: Another very nice online bioimage analysis course is available online from the iBiology: website
  • Advance biophotonics/high res. imaging course: we highly recommend attending the course from Professor Hans Danzl in mid-October 2019. The emphasis of the course will be placed on diffraction-unlimited microscopy, aka nanoscopy or super-resolution microscopy, IQ website

EQUIPMENT:

  • Zeiss LSM800-5 vertical 1: The stage/joystick issues at startup have been fixed
  • Zeiss LSM800-6 vertical 2: The issue with bi-directional scanning has been fixed
  • All Zeiss LSM systems: don’t use bidirectional scanning with scan-speed faster than speed 8 – the alignment does not work and you are wearing out the scanners -> this leads to high repair costs!
  • SONY SH800: currently not working –
  • the pressure regulator seems dysfunctional
  • FlowJo: we moved Flojo to the flow cytometry product group  (07) in PPMS
  • Leica SP5 up: we managed to repair the Argon laser: all lines are available again
