–
April 6, 2026
Dear all,
Welcome to ISTA and thank you for your interest to start using laser equipment. This general laser safety training is meant for NEW scientists and staff that are planning to use laser based equipment and/or need access to a laser lab. New users of microscopes of the IOF machine park have to sign up for the IOF Newcomer training, where the laser safety to use microscopes is already included. This General laser safety training is planned for every first Monday of the month, at 15:00h and normally takes about 30 minutes
Request for “General Laser Safety Training”
This training is required by austrian law and will be held in person. When you sign up via email you will receive a room number for the next training.
Best regards,
The Laser Safety Office:

–
April 13, 2026 – April 16, 2026The Imaging & Optics Facility at ISTA, is organizing Advanced Imaging Spring Workshop, in tight collaboration with Carl Zeiss. (1 ECTS for ISTA students)

The aim of the workshop is to familiarize researchers with the following systems and topics:
The general purpose is to learn to select the optimal technology to best match to sample and scientific question. Researchers are allowed to bring their own (BioSafety Level 1) samples and explore the different technologies with dedicated support of product experts in small 'working groups".
- LightSheet 7, Lattice LightSheet, Lattice SIM (ELYRA7/SIM 3), Lightfield 4D, and data analysis using Arivis
- Key differences between the individual systems and technologies
- Guidance on selecting the most suitable system for specific sample types to achieve optimal results
- Proposal for a decision-support questionnaire (“Which system should I use?”)
- Tips and best practices for sample preparation
- Strategies for efficient and effective data analysis (parallel to the imaging slots)
All technologies are supported by specialists from Carl Zeiss:
- Debora Olivier: Elyra 7
- Gerry Sexton: Lightsheet 7
- Christine Strasser: LSM9 LF4D
- Michael Gue: Lattice Lightsheet 7
- Andrija Nikodijevic: Arivis
The schedule allows to rotate over all available technologies learn which technology works, and which might be less optimal (and why..!)
Program:
- Monday April 13 - presentations (room i21.EG.128 - Office Bldg West / Ground floor / Foyer seminar room)
- Tuesday April 14 - group rotations over all 4 technologies: Lighsheet7; Lattice Lighseet7; Lightfiled4D; SIM3 / Elyra7 + image analysis (Arivis)
- Wednesday April 15 - group rotations over all 4 technologies: Lighsheet7; Lattice Lighseet7; Lightfiled4D; SIM3 / Elyra7 + image analysis (Arivis)
- Thursday April 16 - group rotations over all 4 technologies: Lighsheet7; Lattice Lighseet7; Lightfiled4D; SIM3 / Elyra7 + image analysis (Arivis)
Every day, there is the possibility to investigate the acquired data, using the Arivis image analysis software.

April 22, 2026Join us for a presentation and Q&A with Roy Shoumik, CEO of Stable Scopes, who will introduce their VaHeat precision heating insert for microscopy.
The VaHeat insert can heat up to 100°C within seconds and run customized heating protocolls for complex experimental set-ups. Stable Scopes also provides a variety of substrates for the VaHeat to customize for a wide variety of Experiments.
If you want to test it in person, we have the demo System at ISTA until the end of April.
